Due to the marginalised position of undocumented women, they have inadequate access to healthcare. They are excluded from rights that citizens have, like the right to take out health insurance, while they do have the right to essential healthcare like maternity care.
To learn about their situation and needs, I volunteered for three months at a support group for undocumented mothers of aid organisation. Based on these insights and interviews with medical and aid workers from their network, I developed Paperless Pregnancies: an informational tool that supports undocumented migrant women in accessing maternity care by helping them navigate the Dutch healthcare system and educating them about their healthcare rights. The material provides information about healthcare system and their rights, the platform has the ‘Carefinder’ a tool that guides women to the best practitioner to reach out to.
